They've been restoring this church facade in Montpelier, Vermont since we first moved to Vermont. It's been really interesting watching the men hanging from climbing ropes while finishing the steeple. This is the almost finished product. I have a weird aversion to hearts, but it's still pretty cool. A storm was moving in & I loved the omminous looking clouds forming in the sky.

Interestingly, that church came to get a permit for this work because it is located within the Design Control District (DCD).
They proposed a cross and flame design made out of various colors of slate. It's strange that the almost final product does not resemble what they originally proposed.
Final note, because they are a religious institution they have certain protections from municipal bylaws via the 1st Amendment and the Religious Land Use Protection Act (RLUPA). We were unable to regulate this project because the steeple and images therein were considered religious expression.
It sounds made up, but in fact it is most definitely the facts.

If I didn't know what a big deal you are around Montpelier, I would have thought that it was all made up.
I took several pictures around town when my husband and I recently visited Montpelier. Now I have a problem...I want to identify the places I photographed, but some have stumped me. For instance, the denomanation of the church with the hearts on the steeple roof. I found the church on your site but not the name. Would you mind telling me.
I'm not sure, but I have a friend who lives down the road from there, so he might know. I'll ask him and post the answer back here! :)
