The Date

When I was vacationing in Bellingham, WA last month, I happened upon this couple sitting looking out over the ocean bay. I thought their body language was interesting.
Were they on a first date?
Were they already a couple?
Were they arguing?
Or were they just friends?
They shared no signs of affection with each other,
though they displayed all the characteristics of being on a date.
They had a picnic basket and were dressed stylishly. The woman was wearing Converse All-Star high tops with her cute dress. I love the way her belt is twisted in the back.

Wow, that belt thing is just making me want to write a story about her. Awesome detail.

As usual, love the photos but didn't want to open with awww. Although, it pretty much encapsulates how I feel about them.

Lovely.

Ooooh! You should, you should! I had a whole storyline going in my head when I took their photos. They caught my attention immediately. My friend probably thought I was nuts saying things like, "I wonder if they are arguing. They don't look happy." He was probably thinking, "Why do you care?!" He didn't know me well enough to say it. Haha! The hypothesis I left with was that it was a date, either a blind date or a first date, and it wasn't going well. The chemistry just wasn't there. Maybe I should write a story about them, too and we could compare and see what we both come up with. Whattya think?

And thank you! I'm sorry I've been an absentee commenter. I've been completely self-absorbed lately. Like the last 31 years or so. :) I'll be a better blogger friend soon. I promise!

Your totally right. I can't tell whether they are on a date or just friends.

Good picture. Great subject.

I just might go for a story.
I'll let you know if it starts coming together. I have this whole thing about her getting ready in her bedroom, and how she ended up with the twisted belt and the last-minute Converse...

However, there;'s that darn novel that refuses to write itself (I offered nudity. Not working. At least mine.).

Ha! Well if you get around to it, that would be lovely, but I won't hold my breath. Besides, I'd hate to take you away from your novel. I don't want that on my shoulders... to be known as the one who ruined Extranjera's novel. I can picture the mob outside my door now. It's not pretty.

Love it Erin.
It really does tell a story - I think she dressed in a hurry :P - hence the twist. Shoes - practical for beach walking!

I wonder if the twist in her belt was an accident or if she is quirky enough to do it on purpose, hence the converse. I don't know. I kind of like it, so it's something I would think to do on purpose now, but she did kind of have that "Oh this old thing?!" look going. Like she doesn't try to be cute... she just is. But in my experience, those types usually spend a lot of time thinking about how they look. So who knows. That's what I found so intriguing about them, especially her, the story really go in so many different directions.

I second what the first comment said... This photo speaks volumes. The stories it could tell..
I'd stalk them for ages, prolly :p

Thanks, Danya. I'm so glad that you all approve of my stranger stalking. I guess I didn't follow them anywhere, but while we were in the same location, I couldn't take my eyes or ears off of them. I kept trying to over hear their conversation. Such a weirdo. I promise I don't do this often. Only in beautiful locations with pretty people with interesting body language.

great capture. i often wonder what people's stories are too...i'd love to have seen the converse. nice touch.

Thanks, Julochka! I saw the converse as they were walking away. I was surprised by them and wished I had the guts to snap a photo of them. I'm good at taking photos of people when they don't know I'm shooting, but blatantly taking a photo of a stranger intimidates the hell out of me. I hope I get over that someday.

an interesting picture which can mean lots of things depending on how you choice to look at it.

My story is that they are a couple to reconect after a breakup each scared to make the first move.

Very cool candid shots. Since I started taking picture I find myself wondering what people are thinking and doing.

I did a post about people watching the other day on my Newtown blog.

Thanks everyone! I'm still so curious about them. I might frame it in my home just so I can make up a hundred different stories for them.
